August Effects aims to make people feel good through products that contribute to the greater good. Our products are all hand-made in Bali, creating jobs and sustainable income for local people. Through partnerships with Bali non-profits, August Effects aims to create positive change by giving back to the community. Our hope is that August Effects’ products will not only embody the love and warmth of Bali, but also bring education and opportunity to the communities that inspire them.
For us, August has always been our favorite month of the year. The mere mention of August brings to mind long days at the beach, the feeling of sun on your skin, and the warmth, love, and fun that embolden the idea that summer might never end.
With this in mind, we started our company with the hope that through our products and our mission, customers can experience the effects of August all year long. We aim to make people feel good knowing that their products are designed with love, handmade in Bali, and contribute to the greater good.
The Bali Children Foundation (BCF) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide an educational pathway for disadvantaged Balinese children – a journey leading to growth and long term sustainability.
One of BCF’s key objectives is to provide community education in remote areas of Indonesia. BCF's outreach programs work with children starting as young two years old to develop functional English language and computer skills. Through these educational programs, BCF's goal is for their students to graduate high school, go on to attend University, and obtain well paying jobs to benefit themselves, their families, and their communities.
BCF is in need of English dictionaries for children in their programs. For every purchase made on our site, August Effects has committed to donate a new English dictionary to a BCF child.
Nicole Humphreys has worked in the non-profit sector for 10+ years and her passion is traveling and giving back to educational non-profits around the world. Originally from California, she traveled to Bali, Indonesia in November, 2016 on her honeymoon. On the trip, she and her husband fell in love with the people, culture, and land.
Since then, she has returned to Bali multiple times and was inspired to create a line of unique products that reflect the style of both Bali and California. Through partnerships with local Bali non-profits, she aims to use August Effects to create positive change by giving back to the community that nurtured and inspired her vision.
